You never really think your babies are going to grow up, but then they do. My daughter, Sofia, is seven-years-old today and it’s true what they say, you blink and they are grown-up. She is in first grade and that seems like such a big kid thing. I am so proud of how she takes in each milestone with her signature laugh and love of life. Recently she lost two front teeth. It looks as funny as you would think, but she giggles and continues to smile infectiously. I love my daughter’s cuddles and hugs. I am in awe of her quick mind. I am thankful for her love of reading and helpfulness with her brother. I can’t wait to see her fascination for animals flourish.

Memories for My Daughter

For part of her seventh birthday, because it all just goes by so fast, which is part of why I am a family portrait photographer…I want to share a letter to my daughter. I hope that, just like with our photos, we can look back at this letter and my heart rush back to when you were about to turn seven.

Dear Sofia,

You have smiled since day one. I love the way you approach everything in life with such flair and optimism. Getting to know you over the last seven- years have left me with more hopes for you than I could have ever thought. I have seen what you are capable of and I believe fiercely in your abilities to grow over time. With my proud heart and unfailing love, know I will always be by your side and in your heart.I hope you continue to never let others tell you how to act or who to be. Do not let others waiver you away from your unique path. Above all else, do not let anyone make you feel anything other than amazing. You are intelligent, sincere, empathetic, giving, creative, and oh so beautiful. Know that you have been blessed with everything you need in life to succeed and find happiness. This world is an amazing and challenging place. It is yours to savor, navigate, and enjoy. Live each day with a sense of gratitude and life will honor your heart.

I will be beside you every step of the way. I will hold your hand, cheer you on, pick you up, and watch you discover all that it means to be you. I’m honored to stand beside you. You are my heart and soul. Since the moment you came into this world, you have had an effect on mommy and daddy that is impossible to put into words. I hope my endless support for you allows you to never feel a need to be anything, but your true and best self. Shine my baby, shine!
