You want to make the most of your engagement. If you plan too fast you might regret hasty decision making. Taking too long to make decisions could lead to you second guess your wedding plans and missing out on the opportunities to secure your favorite vendors. There is a happy medium to live in wedding bliss.

Enjoy the moment

Soak in what your significant other has planned for you. Don’t get sidetracked with wanting to get the perfect ring picture posted on social media, at least not quite yet… Enjoy a romantic dinner, snuggle a little, reminisce of when you first met. The engagement only happens once! 

Call your parents

Your parents brought you up in this world, so it’s important to include them in your decision to partner with in life. It’s important to acknowledge their involvement and support in your relationship. This is a bittersweet moment for them, so let’s make them feel in the loop.

Call up a wedding photographer

Want to get the perfect ring pic for social media. Call a wedding or portrait photographer to do a mini session or engagement session within the next week. This doesn’t have to be the person you are going to use for your wedding, but it’s something nice to have and if you hit it off then consider using this photographer on your wedding day.

I love it when couples call a photographer right away to do engagement sessions. The first couple of weeks is when the proposal is all fresh in your mind and exciting. If you wait too long it’s easier for engagement photos to just feel like another check off your list and another expense (although it’s a very important part of a wedding). You can use the photos to announce the engagement and save a few favorites later for save the date photos.

Fellas, if you can plan ahead. Have a wedding photographer there to snap a few pictures of the proposal or if you are really on top of the planning tell your girl you are going to take her out somewhere really nice, so she has her hair done, nails done and is dressed well and you can have photos taken of the engagement right then and there!

Get your ring sized and insured!

Yikes, don’t be so quick to show off the ring without insurance and proper sizing! That ring you are flaunting can be scratched, damaged or stolen! Diamonds are valuable, surprise! Make sure it is sized appropriately so you don’t have a miss-hap of it going down the drain, falling off while swimming, or any other activity.

Pick a date

When picking a date call important family members and very close friends. Make sure there are no other plane tickets purchased for that time by the ones you want to be there the most. Double-check if it’s a holiday. It’s not advised to have a wedding on days where guests may belong to a religious organization where fasting is required on the day of your wedding. Check with your possible wedding party if someone has a milestone birthday that they deserve a separate event for.

If you already have a must-have vendor, like a wedding photographer that you are in love with, or a dream venue, then check their ability first.

Pick your vendors

Research vendors, like wedding photographers, by highest recommendations first. You only have one wedding. Make sure that every experience with your potential vendor is extremely positive. You can’t leave this one up to chance or a 3.5 rating. Don’t be afraid to reach out to acquaintances who have planned a wedding before. A first-hand recommendation is always best and people love talking about their wedding.
