Katie and Trevor are parent’s at our son’s Preschool as well- that’s where we met! Katie and Trevor are those people who always have a warm smile on their face and you naturally want to befriend. I was lucky enough to be chosen to take family portraits during the first few weeks of their third son’s, Myles, life!
Katie has known her husband her whole life! Their parents are best friends and secretly set them up. He used to skateboard to Katie’s house when they were younger, so Trevor was Katie’s first crush! Their wedding was an intimate family affair at a local Chapel.A Las Vegas Family Photo Tradition capturing the intimate moments of the family was an honor. When I arrived in their home I noticed it was as welcoming as their smiles they greet everyone with. Her older sons, Edison and Huddy, took me around the house and showed me everything including the hung framed photos that they each had from their newborn photos. In the Layne’s house family portraits a few weeks after a new baby arrives home is a family tradition she continued from when she was a kid. Apparently you can still go back to her parent’s house and see hers on the wall.During their photography session I noticed a strong loving family who cares very deeply about each other. In the master bedroom the boys were being their true silly selves and jumping on the bed and Katie and Trevor were parenting kindly to make sure the boys were careful around their new baby brother. I don’t think we could have captured the rewarding moments of parenting three young children more accurately.

A tip from Katie is that, “the best moments are the ones where I let go of perfection and let them wrestle or dance and make a mess with their daddy. It takes a minute but it always takes my breath away.” I think that’s why our styles melded so well together. When I came to their house I told Katie we will go with the flow and that’s what we did, “If kids need a break, we took it, if baby needs to be fed or changed, we will do it,” I reassured her. During the photography session I learned about the couple’s background, because let me tell you, the love was truly in the air! I even took away some great parenting tips from Super Mom Katie. Below is some of what Il earned about the Layne Family.
Katie, your connection with your husband is electric! How did you meet and what was your wedding like?
I have known my husband my whole life. Our parents are best friends and secretly set us up! He used to skateboard to my house when we were younger and he was my first crush! He was dreamy! Our wedding was small at a local Chapel called wee Kirk. He didn’t tell me until the night before. I was pregnant with Edison and Huddy was on my hip and Trevor wanted to have his dog 16 yrs old be his best man.
Did you always know you wanted three kids, maybe more?!
I am the only child, so I knew I always wanted many children. Trevor always thought he would always be the fun uncle and never find anyone that he would want to have children with, so I think it’s perfect how we completed that for each other.
Tell us about Myles! How is he so far?
Myles is a great sleeper! We are newly vegan and it seemed to be helping the bouts of fussiness throughout the day.
How have these first few weeks of being parents of three been?
Difficult, but rewarding when everyone seems to be grooving along. The issue of not having enough hands to get the kids ready for bed is our biggest issue. The vision of me holding Myles, while brushing, flossing and mouthwashing 2 boys feels at times like I’m wrestling alligators!

Why is taking Infant Photos important to you?
I am an only child, and my mom made sure we had professional pictures every year. Some of my earliest Memories were of a photographer by the name of Evie Dean come to our home here in Henderson and take our Christmas pictures. I remember holding the poses and smiling so hard my cheeks hurt. I think photography and family photos have changed since then, offering more of a casual look as opposed to a posed and very stiff looking one. Not until I was a mom, did I realize and appreciate the importance and of capturing moments.
What moments are important for you to document?
I like to document the milestones of my children. Now with Instagram and Facebook, those social platforms almost push you to snap and post these moments sometimes we get lazy about.

How did you come up with this family photo tradition of taking family photos with your infant and using the photos to decorate your room?
I followed my mom’s footsteps with the gallery wall in our home too. Today, my mom and dad have all of our family portraits hanging up.

What is your favorite tip to stay positive throughout the chaos of motherhood?
I remind myself daily that these moments will fade and to be present to remember them.
Carry your baby in a sling- find one that works and practice at getting them in and out of it. (Don’t ever try or practice if they aren’t fed first).

You make motherhood look easy; what do you attribute to your supermom ways?
I don’t always feel like it’s easy, but I have the best husband who helps with the other half of the work. He makes me look like I have it together. He entertains and feeds us all.
